Photon v1.2.1 Beta Uploaded, and v2 Plans

Just fixed a few bugs inside the XML-RPC encoder. Apparently, I saw code inside the XML-RPC library itself where NSNumbers were forced or typecasted as NSStrings which is a big no-no. Changed the casting part to [nsnumberinstance description]. Still wondering why it worked before.

Anyway, the XML-RPC library is really old. Didn’t change the library, though. Just tweaked it a bit.

As for the moment, I’ve already uploaded version 1.2.1 beta. Once I’m assured that things are OK will I only remove the beta mark.

I’m open for suggestions for Photon version 2. Please leave your comments below. One of my plans for version 2 is the grid-style thumbnail gallery I mentioned before. One MovableType user requested this, and I really think it’s neat.

As for the current version, please start testing. If it seems to not work, please make sure that:

1. The “Entry Creation” tab inside the blog settings pane has entries in it. If none, then click the “+” button below the blog listing, and remove the just-created item using the “-” button.

2. “Categories” dropdown inside the Weblog tab, of the Export pane, is not stuck to “Retrieving…”. If it’s stuck to that or crashes, please send me the crash reports.

That’s all folks!

That is so freakin’ awesome!

It works and my blog is now picture-ified again!

Thanks!

This is great! thank you so much for getting this updated. The only bug i have seen so far is that it hangs when you try to create a new catagory. Other than that, everything else seems to be working great.

Can I use photon to upload on blogger? if not that would be a nice enhancement…

thanks for your work!

I guess “no” for the moment. The Blogger API seems to not have documentation on how to upload photos through the blogger API. Will do more research about this, but it seems that the Blogger API is different from the MovableType or the MetaWeblog XML-RPC APIs.

Anyone who could give me light to this would help me implement this for blogger.

Performed a massive 44 pic update yesterday with no problems. When I take bluebonnet pictures next weekend, I’ll upload them in a “gallery-style” blog entry as a test.

Thanks for the great work.

Performed more updates in iPhoto ‘06 on Leopard using the “all pictures in one post” feature. Worked like a charm.

No problems yet. Haven’t tested adding a new category because I don’t want to add one to my blog.

Not sure if the is an enhancement or just a how-to request: I want to upload the images to a new post and use Wordpress’s [gallery] tag as the content, but not the images. I can upload with [gallery] as the prologue, but it seems like I must also include the “Use photo as body entry” in Entry Creation or else the photos don’t get linked to the post. Suggesions?

This is exactly what I need for my photoblog – I tried WordpressExport but it didn’t work. Thanks so much for resurrecting Photon.

Unfortunately, I haven’t gotten it working just yet – I’m getting “Server Error: 500″ whenever I try to export (iPhoto ‘08 v7.1.2 with Wordpress 2.6.0). I saw a few other people mention this error on the Wordpress forums, but they seemed to have solved it with Photon 1.2.1. However, I’m using 1.2.1 and it still doesn’t work.

I’d really appreciate any suggestions – I’ve been trying to find a way to export directly from iPhoto to WP for a while now.

What;’s your Wordpress version then? I just upgraded to 2.6, but never got the same errors.

Can you go to console and show any sign of iPhoto log there? Thanks!
